Radio Controlled Aviation

Last updated 11/12/04

Here is my little section dedicated to one of my favorite hobbies. Radio controlled aircraft. I have been flying R/C planes for about twelve years or so, but I just started getting back into the hobby about two years ago. I currently own a few planes and a helicopter.

The helicopter is awesome, I love it. It's a Raptor 50 version 2 Heli. R/C Heli flying is more fun than I ever expected it to be. I encourage anyone who has the slightest interest to try it out.

Below you will find a few pictures and videos of my heli and planes.

Enjoy!

Raptor 50 V2

This is my Raptor 50. It has an OS .50 engine. It is pretty much stock except for MAH tail blades, and carbon fiber main blades. Has a GY 401 heading hold gyro on the tail with a Futaba 9202 digital servo, and JR 537 servos everywhere else. This thing is a little rocket! The OS .50 in the small heli is a real powerhouse. HUGE step up from my .30 that I used to have - sold it for this one.

Ikarus Shock Flyer

This plane is SO MUCH FUN. One of my favorite R/C planes so far - and yet it's so simple. It's just 3mm foam. I have a three cell Lithium battery on it, micro servos, and the very powerful Axi 2208/34 brushless motor. With this motor, I get unlimited vertical and speeds so quick the servos can't even overpower the air flowing over the control surfaces! It can hover, flat spin, and do pretty much any 3D maneuver in the book. It's the ultimate park flyer!

Only have one pic of this one!

U-Can-Do 3D .46

This is the newest model. The U-Can-Do 3D .46 size. It is a 3D airplane, capable of more maneuvers than I currently know how to do! It has HUGE control surface, and a big motor. The wingspan is 57", and it weighs about 6lbs. The directions called for up to a .50 sized two-stroke motor, but I had an OS .65 laying around, so it's new home is in the cowling of this plane. I nervously maidened the plane on Labor day, and was so happy to see it fly. It flies awesome. Unlimited vertical, very fast snap rolls, spins - anything is possible. I even programmed in flaperons so that the landings can be done at about the speed of a quick walk. Totally awesome. Hopefully this one won't be joining the graveyard in the ground anytime soon!

Other Equipment

Some random things that make this all possible! I use the Futaba 9CH heli radio to control all my models. It has 8 model memories, and does helis and planes. And the other picture is my Aircraft Carrier - "S.S. Cousin Larry"!!

Videos

Enjoy the videos! I went through pain with a couple of them!

Video of me going inverted. This is my old Raptor .30 and the video is from my first gallon of fuel.

This is a video compillation my friend put together. The heli crash, and airplane crash were both my fancy work.

Me having a little fun on the 4th of July. Kids, don't try this at home.

I decided to get daring here. I strapped a digital video cam to the heli. There are 2 versions:
High Resolution - 13.0mb MPEG
Lower Resolution - 2mb MPEG

Here is another heli cam video.
High Resolution - 8.3mb MPEG
Lower Resolution - 3.5mb MPEG

Here is a video of my new Raptor .50 - Nothing crazy, just some mild aerobatics. Sorry - No carnage!

Here is a video of my U-Can-Do 3D airplane. Again - Nothing crazy, just some mild aerobatics.
